FAQ
Do you have a cancellation policy?
I have a minimum 1 business day cancellation policy. As an example, a Monday appointment would need to be cancelled by Friday. Failure to cancel your appointment in a timely manner will result in your being charged the full fee for your reserved time.
Do I need to have blood work done to work with you?
While labs aren’t necessary for everyone, I do like to see them for conditions including heart health, prediabetes/diabetes, and PCOS.
What are the benefits of working with a registered dietitian?
When you work with me, you get consistent support, meal plans to fit your lifestyle, and dietary recommendations backed by science.
You can go it alone, but working with a registered dietitian means access to a customized strategy tailored to meet your goals.
Do I have to count calories or follow macros?
I normally don’t have my clients count calories or macros as I find this can add more stress (and that’s the last thing you need!) But if you’d like me to help you with this, I can. The structure of our meal planning will be tailored to what helps you the most.
Can you help me if I follow a special diet such as plant-based, Kosher, food allergies, etc.?
Yes! I tailor all my plans to the individual and take into account your dietary preferences.
Do you give meal plans?
I don’t give meal plans, as I’ve found most of my clients find them too restrictive. I do give many ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinners, and snacks tailored to your food preferences, schedule, and your personal goals and lab results.
I don’t like to cook. Can you still help me?
I don’t spend a ton of time in my miniature NYC kitchen either—so I get this! You’ll get meal ideas tailored to what will work for you. Some of my clients want meal ideas based on convenience products, meal delivery services, or take-out food, whereas others love to cook and want recipes. However, I do find it helpful if you can do some simple cooking at times. We’ll discuss this.
Do you work with families or couples?
I frequently work with couples and families. It’s difficult to make changes and the support of a significant other or family members can be very helpful.
What are some of the benefits of a healthy diet?
A healthy diet is about so much more than the numbers on a scale. By incorporating a healthy diet into your life you can improve your sleep and wake up with more energy to start your day. Not only will this lead to improved overall mood, but you’ll lengthen your lifespan, improve your internal health, and help prevent conditions and lifestyle-related diseases such diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer, to name a few!
What types of clients do you work with?
I work with clients of most ages—from adolescents to seniors. Some common reasons why people want to work with me include:
- Weight loss & maintenance
- Diabetes, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes
- Heart health
- GI conditions including IBS, GERD, constipation, gluten sensitivity, and more
- Women’s health issues including PCOS, menopause, PMS, and pregnancy
- Sports and athletic performance
- Guidance on decreasing carb cravings and increasing energy levels
- Overall healthy diet for a busy lifestyle
- Binge eating and food relationships
- I even work with helping clients gain weight if needed!
Do you accept insurance?
I am out of network and all fees need to be paid at or before the time of service. I will give you a form called a superbill to submit to your insurance company. Some companies will reimburse you – depending on your plan and insurance company. If your plan allows out of network providers, I’d recommend that you contact them to see if they cover nutrition visits and what type of diagnosis they would accept. For example, some companies will cover for high cholesterol, prediabetes or overweight, whereas other companies will only cover wellness visits and some don’t cover nutrition at all.
I accept all credit cards, checks, PayPal, Venmo, flexible spending accounts, and health savings accounts.
Note: if you do not reside in New York and plan on submitting my superbill to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, check to see if they cover “medical nutrition therapy” visits with out of state Registered Dietitians. Many states require RDs to be certified in your state. In that case, we would have to do “nutrition coaching” and you cannot submit for insurance reimbursement. It may count towards your FSA, if you have one. Check with your company. See this link to find out the licensure in your state.
How do I schedule an appointment with you?
If you are looking for support with nutrition or lifestyle changes, you can schedule your session here or call me at (212) 879-5167.
If you’re looking for support with PCOS, start by scheduling a complimentary 15-minute call with me here. We’ll use this time to determine if we’re a good fit and choose which package would be right for you.
Can we still work together if I don't live in the NYC area?
Absolutely! Post pandemic, my practice is 100% virtual by Zoom, FaceTime, or phone. My clients love this as it’s convenient for you—no traveling, we can look at the food labels in your home, and more. However if you live in the NYC area, I may be able to see you in an office (with very limited time slots).
What can I expect from my first appointment?
Before we meet, I will email you a link to an online questionnaire to fill out. This helps me learn more about your goals, any significant medical history, medications or supplements you’re taking, and your current eating and exercise habits. It’s also helpful if you can upload labs to the questionnaire or give me permission to get them from your doctor.
During your initial appointment, we’ll review the questionnaire together and set goals. You’ll get education on nutrition relevant to the goals we set along with personalized ideas for meals in this session. I’ll also provide you with lifestyle guidance including exercise, sleep, supplements, etc.
The purpose of this appointment is to cover the basics and lay the foundation of our work together. We’ll continue in other areas during follow up appointments, as needed. The initial session is usually 75 minutes, although some clients may only need 60 minutes. You can book those sessions here.
Do I need follow up appointments?
I strongly encourage follow up appointments. Changing behaviors is very difficult and can take months or sometimes years. My most successful clients are those who meet with me on a regular basis. Many of my clients like to meet more frequently in the beginning and then less frequently as time goes by.
Follow up sessions are 30 minutes and include more detailed guidance in areas such as ordering take out, restaurant dining, healthy traveling tips, easy cooking ideas, strategies on how to handle social situations, and just navigating the hurdles of a hectic life.
But there are some clients who only need to meet with me once! An example might be if you already follow a healthy diet, but have an elevated cholesterol level. We might meet just to make some changes to your diet in our initial session. Then you can reach out to me in the future if you feel a follow up session is needed.
What should I bring to my session?
As long as you have filled out your questionnaire and emailed it back to me prior to our session, you are all set! If you don’t have your blood work and would like me to see it, I can contact your doctor to get a copy. I am especially interested in seeing your cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, HbA1c and vitamin D. If you have PCOS, I would also be interested in seeing your insulin levels and glucose tolerance test results. Feel free to bring your significant other for support, but keep in mind that my sessions are for one person. If your significant other wants a session, you will need to book 2 hours.
Do you make "house-calls"?
Yes, I can make house or office calls in certain circumstances. I charge my hourly rate for any time out of the office, including travel time and incurred costs.
Do you have packages available?
Yes! You can save up to 10% by signing up with a package, which can be a series of 4 or 8 sessions and include 15-minute check-ins based on your individual needs.
